Yesterday evening I had an amazing time working with Tatum Perrine of Evolution Modeling and Talent Agency. This was the first time I’ve really worked with a child model for head shots and promo images, so I had spent a large amount of time researching and trying to make sure these turned out amazing. Her and her mother met up with me in downtown Belmont, NC and we set out to get Tatum some incredible images! So, no need to spend more time boring you my ramblings, here are the pictures!
Today I wanted to share a very special love story with you guys. I had the amazing opportunity of shooting a maternity session with Tara and Matt over the weekend and they are unbelievably fun to be around. The love they have for each other is so apparent that it just made my day to be around them. Below is their story straight from Tara! 🙂
“Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.”- Albert Einstein
If ever there was proof of fate and divine direction, it’s been through the past year of our lives. One step in any other direction…one moment of hesitation or delay and our paths would never have crossed. He was working for an airline, on layover in Charlotte, NC and I was out with friends celebrating their upcoming wedding. Through a series of events, we ended up in the same place at the same time. At the risk of sounding cliché, the connection was instant. We spent the entire evening together and the rest, as they say, was history.
In the midst of a beautiful, whirlwind courtship, we learned that God had handed us the biggest blessing we could ever ask for… we were expecting our first child. Pure joy doesn’t come close to describing the emotions that flooded the both of us when we confirmed that our little one was on his way. And now, as we eagerly anticipate his arrival, it’s pure joy that still floods our hearts. We find such peach and hope in the strength of our love for each other and in the love we have for our son.
Last night I finally caved into some pressure that I’ve been getting from some close friends (mainly Jennifer over at Pure and Simple Organizing) and started uploading some of my images to pinterest. Honestly, I’d never really thought to upload them because I figured mainly it would be just other photographers looking for ideas and I didn’t know how much that would actually help me. But, last night I figured what the heck and just uploaded a photo that I loved from the maternity shoot that I shot this weekend. Here is the image I pinned last night:
I have to admit, I was startled by how it was received. It had been repinned 6 times in about 10 minutes of me posting it. I started looking around at who was pinning it and I realized that yes, there were some photographers, but there were also lots of moms and moms to be that were looking for ideas for their own photos. And I guess I realized that even if it didn’t directly get me business, it is helping others get great images and I’m cool with that. 🙂
The other thing I’ve done today is sign up over at twobrightlights.com. This is a site that was referred to me by the amazing Christi Falls, and it allows me to upload albums and easily get exposure to tons of outlets for publication. Its something that I’m setting up today and I’m hoping to start submitting shoots in the next few days. I’ve never really dealt with trying to get my shoots published, so this will be a very new and interesting experience!
Its an exciting time right now around here and I’m just loving life. If you want to see more from the maternity shoot above, check back tomorrow for a full post with loads of pictures!
So I had to cancel all of my shoots today due to some ridiculous wind around Charlotte today. Add that to the brisk temperatures and it was just not a pleasant day to be outside! I’m really hoping that I can get my shoot in tomorrow because I am SUPER excited to do this maternity shoot! 🙂
I’ve spent the entire day today out shopping with my wife, Courtney. She took advantage of the windy conditions to drag me out looking for her a new purse. Normally I’d definitely not be that excited about this, but she’s been working crazy overtime lately and it was really nice to get to spend the day with her just goofing off.
Now I’m just getting home (sorry for the late post!) and starting on some editing for the crystal shoot I did yesterday. Here is a little sneak peek! 🙂
In other news I’m working on something really big, but I can’t tell you guys yet. Super exciting times ahead and I’m over the moon about this year. Also, I’m heavily leaning towards launching a little give-a-way on Monday! 🙂
Today I have a hugely busy day. My gig shooting for The Crystal Shoppe starts today, which I am SUPER excited about. I’ve been practicing and trying different lighting setups and I really can’t wait to get there and get some beautiful images. I also have some calls to make today to speak with jewelry stores in the area. I really love shooting jewelry, so I would be thrilled to get a few more clients in that industry. One company that I have a meeting with today is an estate jeweler and their pieces are absolutely gorgeous. I would be over the moon to be able to showcase these pieces, everyone cross your fingers and send good vibes in this general direction! 😉
I know some of you have been following along with the downsizing and the words of encouragement I’ve gotten from you all is amazing. Yesterday was week 6 day 2 of couch to 5k, so I only have 7 more runs before its complete. I can’t believe the difference in my running ability. Yesterdays run was 5 min warm up walk, 10 min run, 3 min walk, 10 min run, 5 min cool down walk. I completed it with no problems. That’s just amazing to me. If you’d said that 6 weeks ago I would have laughed at you. Tomorrow’s run is the last one with any walking in the middle, so I better enjoy it! My first 5k on March 10 is coming up quickly, I have to be ready.
I stepped on the scales this morning and I’m down 20 lbs so far this year. It has definitely been a struggle at times to make sure I always eat right and always go do my run every other day (sometimes 2 days off between “weeks” of couch to 5k). However, I’m staying on course for the most part and honestly my clothes feel like they are fitting a lot better than 20 lbs worth. I know I have a LONG way to go, but seeing these mini successes will only make it easier.
Very short post today. I want you to not focus on my words, but on this video. This video has been the single biggest inspiration for why I do photography. It changed my world and made me really open my eyes to making my dreams come true. Enjoy!
Today I took another big step in the business world … I met with my CPA. This is the first time I’ve met with a CPA and probably should have a long time ago. They are going to help me do my personal and business stuff. One thing that came out of this meeting today was my need to get Quick Books so that I can accurately know whats going on with the business and upgrade out of my excel spreadsheet! 🙂
Its pretty exciting to see any progress, so I’m looking forward to getting started on this journey. They are going to be training me on how to use it by helping me input all of my stuff from last year. This way I have the ability to compare 2012 to 2011 easily, and I learn how to do it correctly at the same time.
In other news, I have multiple clients to get back to today about shoots. I’ve had multiple jewelry stores contact me this week about potential shoots, which is flat out amazing! Its amazing to me how when you get what you think is bad news, the universe provides exactly what you need. I’m honestly still looking around at day job options right now because I am so scared of trying to do photography full time and being able to pay all of our bills with it. But, every time I get a call, or email, from a potential client it makes me really think hard about it. I know I want photography to eventually be my “career” and only “job,” but I do worry about me being ready right now. My original goal was to make the transition by the end of 2012, but, we’ll see how it all plays out. 🙂
