Studio or no?

I did a lot of thinking over the weekend, and I reluctantly admit I watched a good bit of America’s next top model.  But, what really got stuck in my head, was that perhaps it was time for me to start looking into a studio.  I’ve always shot “on location” by meeting clients at their houses, at a local park, downtown in different cities, or just general wherever was close to them and offered some interesting backgrounds.

I’ve always liked shooting this way, but looking around the net, I’m really wondering if getting a studio up and running would be the right thing to do to really take this thing to the next level.

How many people still do studio shots?  I see lots of articles and blogs saying that the trend is to take the photos outside and out of the studio, but I can definitely still see the usefulness of having one.  Its easy to take the kids to, its really easy to have specials where you allow everyone to come in for a quick pose or two and just work through your line without having to trek all over a park.  It is also fantastic for this Carolina heat.  Carrying camera equipment all over a park in high 90s temperatures really stinks.

So, I guess in the end it comes down to this. Would you be more interested in having photos made by me if I had a studio to come to?

Either comment here, on Facebook, twitter, or just email me at and let me know what YOU think!

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite images from the weekend:
