Becoming Real – Thank You

Sitting here in my study, I was trying to think of what I wanted to blog about.  I know I need to get in the habit of blogging everyday.  I need to blog about more than just posting my pictures, or doing a how-to article or video.  Speaking of which, I promise there will be a how-to video of some sort up before next Monday. 🙂

What I came up with to chat about was about this journey.  I’ve been doing portrait photography semi-professionally now since about last November.  It started out as just a way to make some side money and something that I just enjoyed doing as a hobby.  The more I picked up the camera and went out to shoot people, the more it began to change.  I can tell you right now, there is absolutely nothing in the world like showing a picture that you took to someone and seeing their eyes light up.  To see someone genuinely love your work … its priceless.  I absolutely love creating the images that people will show to their grandkids, that show their story, that capture those special moments forever.

I have always been someone who has done well under pressure.  One thing that people constantly told me about photography was that the pressure was immense, especially at weddings.  I feel like its only natural that I would gravitate towards the discipline that would be the most stressful.  You only get one chance to capture those moments that pass in a blink of an eye.  You have to be on top of your game the entire time.  The one thing I love about weddings is the emotion.  I am addicted to emotion.  Anything that demonstrates a raw passion will get my attention, and I love to capture it.

These past few days I was able to shoot my first wedding reception all alone.  It all was on my shoulders to deliver the end product and I loved every minute of it.  Of course it helped that I was working with an amazing couple who had great families.  I just uploaded their images for them today and I am now a member of the Professional Photographers of America.  I am taking all of the steps to make this my full time career.  I don’t want to constantly be hoping that it works out.  Its time I took the steps to make it happen.

I am so excited to go on this journey.  I am constantly meeting other photographers and wedding professionals that inspire me everyday.  I just hope that one day down the road I can repay their kindness and support to some other aspiring wedding professional and be as much of a positive influence to them as these people have been towards me.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far, and thank you to all of you for coming and reading my blog / seeing my work.  I hope you all enjoy it and that you get something from it.  I truly do appreciate every single one of you!

– Matt
