Birthdays, Traditions, and Sleeping Too Late

Today is my sister’s birthday … Happy Birthday Jennifer! 🙂

Tonight we are getting together for a birthday dinner with our parents.  I’m looking forward to it because I love spending time with family.  Its been a tradition for as long as I can remember that we always go out to dinner for our birthdays as a family, and since forever my sister has ALWAYS chosen to go Japanese.  Today is day 7 of my journey of changing my life and I’ve been under my calorie goal everyday this week, so I’m totally looking forward to a nice cheat meal tonight! (loss update: 11lbs total)

I think it is so important for families to have traditions and to keep trying to do things together for as long as possible.  I know its so easy for us to get so busy with our own lives that we struggle to make time for others.  I’ve been thinking a lot about life over the last few months and how truly short it is.  Its so important to do what you love, and be with those that you love as much as possible.  The reason I love traditions so much is that it gives you something to look forward to … it builds the anticipation.  Even though it took my sister a week to tell us where she wanted to go eat, I already knew.  I knew last year it was going to be Japanese today, and I love it. 🙂

Today is also a fantastic day for me on another front.  My sporting passion is Manchester United.  Anyone who has spent more than about 30 minutes with me knows I love soccer, and I love Manchester United.  Today was a huge match against cross town rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup (Tournament for all English teams).  United won 3-2 and it just made my day.  The game was full of excitement, drama, and everything you could ask for in a huge sporting event.  The only downside … I slept through the first half! 😦  United scored 3 in the first half, so I only got to watch the City comeback and bite off all nails that I had.  Still, United won and I get to have an awesome dinner with family tonight to celebrate my sister’s birthday.  Does it get any better?

What are some family traditions that you have?  Is there anything that you can look forward to year after year?

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and I look forward to reading about your traditions in the comments!

  1. Happy birthday to your sister!

Thanks for checking in on me! I just finished week 1 of couch to 5k and I also did a version of GNC 7 day fast loss kit. I switched the protein shakes to use one I like and I bought the supplements in actual bottles so I can do it longer than 7 days. Today is the beginning of day 9 and I’m down 12 lbs. 🙂
