I promise I’m not going to make this a habit, but this is the 2nd day in a row I’ve been late posting. I’ll do better, I promise! 🙂
Today I attended a luncheon at Amelie’s French Bakery in NoDa for wedding professionals. Honestly, I was like crazy nervous about going. I knew a few people who would be there, and I had at least met a couple of people before, but I saw there were going to be like 28 people there and was pretty scared if I’m honest. This will be my very first full year as a professional photographer and I really thought I was going to feel like an outsider and everyone would just scoff at me. There were very serious thoughts about just not going and making up an excuse.
I did manage to get myself up and ready to go. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew if this was going to be my new life, I needed to get out and be social. I have to put myself out there and say to anyone that will listen that I am a wedding professional. That includes opening myself up to praise when I do well, and criticism when I do something wrong. It also includes subjecting yourself to more established people looking down on you in some cases. It happens.
So off I went, I got there a little early and decided to just wait in my car until I saw someone I knew so I could walk in with them. I may have built up the courage to go, but I still wanted something of a security blanket! 🙂 Luckily Christi pulled up and I just walked in with her.
Once I got there my entire mindset changed. These people were actually really awesome to talk to. Nobody was snooty or elitist. Everyone was super nice, down to earth, and genuinely fun to be around. This may not be normal, but I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of networking in the wedding world. 🙂
One of the funnest parts for me was when we introduced ourselves and I mentioned that I am a huge Harry Potter nerd. Little did I know that this would lead to a ton of awesome conversations afterwards! I truly loved meeting everyone and am looking forward to doing it again!
